The TMC2208 V1.2 is the latest single-axis stepper motor drive chip. It has the unique feature of direct UART function usage, which simplifies the circuitry by removing the need for extra wiring. It features a power tube built-in drive current of 1.4A with a peak current of 2A. The voltage range is 4.75V-36V and it supports 256 subdivision.
In addition, this module includes patented technologies such as spreadCycle™ high chopper frequency, dcStep™, stallGuard2™ stall detection, CoolStep™ current dynamic adjustment, and StealthChop mute. These unique features increase the module’s overall efficiency and reduce energy consumption by up to 70%.
Notably, the TMC2208 has a flexible microPlyer interpolation unit that can provide up to 256 microstep/step resolution. This feature maintains perfect sinusoidal control, even when the pulse rate is limited. The module is designed to be compatible with existing 3D printer electronics due to the common application of stealthchop fine music technology in 3D printing. It operates fully independently as it has pulse/direction input, and all configuration is done through digital input.
