The TMC2208 Stepper Motor Driver Module is a single-axis stepper motor drive chip with an integrated power tube. The new model, V1.2, employs the UART function directly, thus reducing the need for additional wiring. The module operates with a peak current of 2A, a default current of 1.4A, within a voltage range of 4.75V-36V. It also uses the patented technology spreadCycle™ for high chopper frequency. This latest model of TMC2208 features dcStep™, stallGuard2™ stall detection technology, CoolStep™ current dynamic adjustment technology and StealthChop mute technology. These components contribute to considerable energy saving, up to 70%.
The TMC2208 module allows for a micro-step resolution of up to 256 microsteps/step, courtesy of the flexible microPlyer interpolation unit. It functions perfectly achieving sinusoidal control even in pulse rate-limited systems. Owing to the broader application of stealthChop fine technology in 3D printing, these components are compatible with existing 3D printer electronics, eliminating the need for expensive redesigns. Both components support pulse/direction inputs and can operate independently.
Paired with the TMC2208 is the Stepstick Smoother, which mainly serves to eliminate the printed marks produced by 3D printers and the parallel arm structure. This smoother functions effectively to eliminate non-uniform waveform signals at low speed and provides a relatively flat signal waveform.
