The TMC2208 single-axis stepper motor drive chip features a built-in power tube and offers a drive current of 1.4A, with a peak current of 2A. It supports a voltage range of 4.75V-36V and offers 256 subdivision levels. This drive chip uses patented technologies such as spreadCycle™ for high chopper frequency, dcStep™, stallGuard2 ™ stall detection technology, and CoolStep ™ current dynamic adjustment technology. The latter can save up to 70% of energy. It’s also equipped with StealthChop mute technology.
Incorporating a flexible microPlyer interpolation unit, the TMC2208 can provide up to 256 microsteps / step resolution. This ensures perfect sinusoidal control even in systems with a limited pulse rate. Built to be comprehensively compatible with existing 3D printer electronics, this component greatly reduces the need for costly redesigns. It comes with a pulse/direction input that enables wholly independent operation. The configuration settings of the TMC2208 are implemented through digital input.
