This product comes in two reed switch varieties: “normally open” reed switches and “normally closed” reed switches. The metal reeds in a normally open switch remain open if there is no magnet nearby. The presence of a magnetic field will cause the switch contacts to close. A normally closed reed switch stays shut when it’s not close to a magnet but opens when a magnet approaches.
