The TMC2208 V1.2 is the latest iteration of this single-axis stepper motor drive chip. A prominent feature of this version is the integration of the UART function, eliminating the need for extra wiring. It has built-in power tubes with drive currents that span from 1.4A peak to 2A, and a voltage range of 4.75V to 36V. The device supports 256 subdivisions.
The module makes use of patented technologies such as spreadCycle™ for high chopper frequency, dcStep™, stallGuard2™ for stall detection, CoolStep™ for current dynamic adjustment, which can help save up to 70% of energy, and StealthChop for silent operation.
Thanks to its flexible microPlyer interpolation unit, it can deliver up to 256 microstep/step resolution, making it ideal for achieving perfect sinusoidal control even in systems with limited pulse rates.
