The TMC2208 module itself is a single-axis stepper motor drive chip that features a built-in power tube. The drive current is 1.4A (peak current 2A) while the voltage range stands at 4.75V-36V. It’s notable for its 256 subdivision and comes integrated with spreadCycle™ high chopper frequency, dcStep™, stallGuard2™ stall detection, CoolStep™ dynamic current adjustment technologies, and StealthChop quiet technology.
The sophisticated microPlyer interpolation unit within the module can provide up to 256 microstep/step resolution. This allows sinusoidal control, even in pulse-rate limited systems. The use of stealthChop technology, prevalent in 3D printing, makes this component compatible with existing 3D printer electronics, thus avoiding expensive redesigns. The parts are equipped with pulse/direction input, enabling fully independent function. Configuration happens via digital input.
The Stepstick Smoother is designed to eliminate print marks made by 3D printers and the parallel arm structure, producing a smoother, more stable signal waveform at low speeds.
