The upgraded version of this filament sensor kit offers significant improvements over the previous model. While the old sensor experienced compatibility issues with certain filaments, the new version utilizes an optical sensor activated by a simple mechanical lever. This approach negates the need for the sensor to rely on the filament’s optical properties, and it also eliminates the concern of mechanical wear leading to sensor failure.
Assembly Instructions for the IR Sensor:
- Position the IR-sensor on top of the Extruder-body and secure it with the included M2x8.
- Once the M2x8 screw is tightened, ensure that the sensor is firmly in place. Be aware that while the sensor is robust, the PCB is not indestructible.
- Connect the cable, taking care to orient the connector and wires correctly.
- Allow some slack behind the sensor, as demonstrated in the accompanying picture. Avoid creating an excessively large loop that might interfere with the frame. If needed, adjust the cable’s length by gently pulling or pushing it.
