The TMC2208 is a single-axis stepper motor drive chip featuring built-in⁣ power tubes. With a 1.4A drive current, ‍2A peak current and a voltage range between 4.75V-36V, it​ also offers ‍256 subdivisions. It‌ makes ‌use of patented technologies like spreadCycle for ⁣high chopper frequency, dcStep, stallGuard2 for stall detection, CoolStep for‍ dynamic current adjustment, and StealthChop for noise reduction. The ‌TMC2208 allows for energy savings of up to 70%.

The chip⁣ has ‍a microPlyer interpolation unit that can provide a maximum of 256 microstep/step resolution. This aids in perfect sinusoidal control. Additionally, thanks to its StealthChop technology, the chip is compatible with existing 3D printer ⁣electronics without‍ necessitating‍ expensive redesigns and is commonly used in 3D printing.

Both components of the TMC2208 have ‍pulse/direction input and can operate independently. Setup is achieved through a digital input. TMC2208 V2.0 improves ‌upon the ​current hardware from V1.1 and is a direct replacement.
