The TMC2208 is a single-axis stepper motor drive chip featuring built-in power tubes. With a 1.4A drive current, 2A peak current and a voltage range between 4.75V-36V, it also offers 256 subdivisions. It makes use of patented technologies like spreadCycle for high chopper frequency, dcStep, stallGuard2 for stall detection, CoolStep for dynamic current adjustment, and StealthChop for noise reduction. The TMC2208 allows for energy savings of up to 70%.
The chip has a microPlyer interpolation unit that can provide a maximum of 256 microstep/step resolution. This aids in perfect sinusoidal control. Additionally, thanks to its StealthChop technology, the chip is compatible with existing 3D printer electronics without necessitating expensive redesigns and is commonly used in 3D printing.
Both components of the TMC2208 have pulse/direction input and can operate independently. Setup is achieved through a digital input. TMC2208 V2.0 improves upon the current hardware from V1.1 and is a direct replacement.
