- The positive electrode of a polymer soft pack battery often has an aluminum sheet which unfortunately is prone to breakage, hampering its long-term use. To facilitate aluminium alloy welding, it’s recommended to use aluminum-nickel composite sheets as a replacement. This suggests significant opportunities and challenges for spot welding of aluminum sheets.
- The challenge with an aluminum sheet lies in its low electrical resistivity, good thermal conductivity but poor soldering property. Some users resort to ultrasonic welding which, though ensures strength, can lead to severe defects such as blackening, increased resistivity, and virtual soldering if the surface has oxidized.
- After thorough tests and analysis, our engineers believe that the SUNKKO 709 spot welding machine can produce satisfactory results. It works efficiently even with aluminum sheets that have an oxide layer. However, the aluminum sheet should not be subjected to high tensile strength in any welding method and should not be welded to the nickel sheet and the stainless steel spot.
